NicheInspector Review

Niche Inspector is an all in one tool for identifying and researching highly profitable online niches.  But does it work?  And how does it differ from other key word research tools.

Well, yes it certainly works.  And just to nail my colours to the mast, I think that NicheInspector is the best piece of software it has been my pleasure to use for many a long day.  That said, I believe the review below is balanced and fair so you will be able to make up your own mind.

If you are new to niche marketing you might like to take a look at my very short Niche Marketing Primer.

Ok, so what does NicheInspector actually do?

Niche Brainstorming

Well suppose you are absolutely bereft of ideas.  You want to create a niche web site but you don’t have a clue where to start.  Niche Inspector offers a brainstorming option.  I don’t know how this has been implemented but if you click on ‘brainstorm’ niche inspector will go off and identify up to 250 sample ideas complete with number of searches, competing web sites, and the number and bids for google adwords.

I have found several site concepts that I simply would never have considered otherwise and all by just clicking on a button and letting Niche Inspector do its stuff.

Search For Profitable Niches Based on Key Words.

To be fair, coming up with ideas for niches is pretty easy.  All you have to do is take a look around you.  At the moment I can see furniture, television, DVD player, carpets, rugs, fire place, mirrors, garden pond, lawn, patio, garden furniture

You get the idea.  Every single one of these could be the root of one or many highly profitable online niches.  There will also be some dross.  The challenge is to sort the wheat from the chaff.

And that’s just what NicheInspector does for you.  Let’s take the very broad search term ‘football’ and plug that in.

NicheInspector Searches

After a few minutes you will see a table like this.  Lots of associated keywords and search counts.  Nothing unusual in this – it’s what you would get  by doing a search over at Overture.  There’s lots more too – we’ll come to that later.

Competing Web Sites

If you are like me you have probably got this far in the past.  I have found hundreds of key words and key phrases with huge demand.  At one time I would have immediately gone off and built a site around those words and sat back waiting for the money to start flowing in.  Unfortunately, demand alone is not enough.  If you have hundreds of thousands of better established competitors the task of getting your site to rank well in the search engines is enormous.  Without search engine position you are unlikely to get much adsense revenue.

Conversely, if you find a niche in which there are relatively few competitors it is going to be correspondingly easier to get your site to rank well for your chosen key words.

Niche Inspector Competition

This is where Niche Inspector begins to score.  It automatically brings back the numbers of competing web sites from Google, Yahoo and MSN.

Making Money

Making money from your web site means you need 2 things: you need traffic and you need people with money to spend.  If you concentrate on adsense sites the latter is provided by the number of people who click on the ads placed on your site.  This is where the unbelievable power of NicheInspector starts to kick in.  Along with the search and competition results you get not only the number of google adwords campaigns for each key word or phrase, you also get the range of fees that advertisers are willing to pay.

This is the crux of NicheInspector.  It enables you to search for niches with high searches, low competition but in which there are plenty of ads for which punters are willing to pay a reasonable fee.

While this may all sound great to adsense builders the general principles hold true for all marketers.  If your competitors are willing to pay a significant amount of money to advertise their product or service it generally shows you that there is a profitable demand in that market.  The law of natural selection applies very strongly in advertising.  If ads don’t make money they soon get dropped.

Niche Inspector Adwords

So relatively high numbers of google adwords campaigns coupled with good price per clicks are great indicators of demand for affiliate marketing or your own products.

Filtering the results

While NicheInspector gives you the raw data it is up to you to decide what constitutes a good niche market.  For instance, you might decide that you need a minimum of 10,000 searches per month but with less than 5,000 competitors in all 3 of the major search engines, at least 10 google ad campaigns with an average bid per click over $1.

No problem, NicheInspector allows you to search on all of these terms and filter your results accordingly.  You can search on the results:search ratio – the lower the better (few results and lots of searches).

You can also choose to search on the Keyword Effective Index (KEI).  The KEI was developed by Sumantra Roy as a means of assessing the relative value of keywords and key phrases.  It is more complex to calculate and takes into account the value of higher numbers of searches rather than a simple results to search ratio.  If that makes you cross your eyes – no problem.  You don’t need to understand how it is derive to use it.

In short, the higher the KEI the better.  Anything over 100 is considered good.  Using NicheInspector I have discovered a number of niches that have key phrases with a KEI over 1,000,000.  Needless to say, I am working my fingers to the bone putting out simple content site for those niches.

There is an example in our football search earlier.

NicheInspector KEI

Just in case you can’t read the graphic.  The search term ‘nfl football ticket’ has 152,482 searches and a Google KEI of 1,051,565.  Not only that but there are 17 google ads ranging in price from $3 to $4.40.

On the face of it this is a niche with enormous profit potential.  Normally I wouldn’t share such an insight.  In this case, I really wanted to show why I am so excited by NicheInspector.  Needless to say I have also found several other niches with similar or better prospects that I will be exploiting so as good as this one looks it would be many months before I got round to doing anything about it.
